You can click this link and read about the fire behind my parents house.

SignOnSanDiego.com > News > North County -- Fire roars across base

They live right on the fence line on Alexandrine Court. The Oceanside Fire Department came and prepared their house. A few moments later the Oceanside Police Department evacuated my parents. They were told they had five minutes. They just recently had retired out there and had a lifetime's worth of stuff. My parents got out of there with the clothes on their back. Luckily a combination of the winds and the fire stop kept the fire at bay. All is well.

I guess battery comes in many forms

I didn't know this could be classified as battery. I hope I'm never pulled over after a night at Don Pablo's.

The bandit is on the loose!

Very scary times in Valentine, Nebraska these days...I'd say the perp will be easy to catch - their prints are everywhere!

    Michael Jackson turns 50

Okay so he may be a little kooky, but Jacko
turned 50 today...I personally think his music is great in spite of his weirdness...

I heard this topic on 'Mike and Mike' this morning and I liked it. Here are my favorite Michael Jackson songs Olympics style...

    Gold - Billie Jean
    Silver - Thriller
    Bronze - Say, Say, Say

The bronze is my sleeper pick...It's a song that doesn't get a whole lot of airplay if any, but I love the duet with Paul McCartney...What's yours?

Okay so I'm planning on buying the Nebraska vs. Western Michigan on pay per view this weekend. The only thing keeping this from coming together is that Dish Network has not announced what channel it will carry the game.

Someone needs to get on the ball and get this done.

When you're a College President and it's July 4th on Lake Okoboji...

I'm going to go out on a limb here but you don't pour beer down the throats of bikini clad women on the back of your boat. Just a hunch but in the age of the digital camera, you don't yuck it up within sight of one.
The story is here. He probably is right - His personal life is probably just that. However, this won't play very well for a person in a leadership role of college age students.
We were there that weekend and probably toasted this guy as we motored past the party cove. This incident just reinforces that Okoboji is the place to be on July 4th.

    London 2012

This summer Olympics I wasn't really excited about. I meant to write an entry about how unenthused I was leading up to this. Boy was I wrong. Phelps, Usain Bolt, the Redeem Team, Shawn Johnson, Nastia, Beach Volleyball, or crazy Cuban TaeKwonDo athletes I was totally sucked into it. I'm back on the Olympic bandwagon.

So much so I am researching the London games of 2012. I really want to go. Tickets go on sale in 2011. It's on the list. The invitation is open to anyone who wants to go with us. Who's going with us?

    An Interesting Choice....

I don't normally wade into political waters. Probably because my beliefs are fairly entrenched in the conservative camp. I really feel no need to mix it up because most political debate ends up in rhetoric anyway. But this choice by Obama could prove to be a liability because of how outspoken he was about Obama. Read on about it here.

Ref Tae Kwon Do at your own risk

    (JUNG YEON-JE/AFP/Getty Images)
Apparently this highly trained, world-class athlete disagreed with the refree on his disqualification from his bronze medal match.
This just illustrates why I referee-ing an Olympic Tae Kwon Do match is not making my bucket list.
    Here is the story

My memories of my 10,000 calorie diet

The most amazing thing about Michael Phelps is his 8,000 to 10,000 calorie diet. Forget the all the gold medals, blah, blah, blah. Eating that much and still staying under 200 pounds is superhuman. Let’s see I ate like that for a time in my life and I ballooned up to 240+ pounds. Thanks to University of Minnesota food services and my penchant for binge drinking. Michael Phelps diet is very well documented but lets see how my diet stacked up against his.

    Breakfast:
12” plate – ½ eggs scrambled or sunny + ½ bacon, sausage, or both
    1 Plate full of Hashbrowns
    1 bowl of cereal
    1 bagel with cream cheese
    16oz of milk
    16oz of Orange Juice

    Lunch
    2 Hamburgers
Bowl of Salad with Bleu Cheese Dressing and Croutons
    Plate of Fries
    Potato Chips
    20oz of pink lemonade
And surely more food which hit my mouth so quickly I forgot.

    Dinner
A plate full of the entrée du jour
    Throw in some fries
    Salad.
    Plate of pasta
    Glass of Milk
    20oz soda

    Dinner #2 ~8pm
Pizza, Subs, Fried Rice, or other Fast Food.
    Beer – volumes unknown.

Take that Michael Phelps…I own you as far as our diets go...Sure you burned it all off - I wore it like a badge of honor for 10 years...

    The Brett Favre Phenomena

Trying to understand the phenomena that is Brett Favre. Not a new story by any means but I love the longevity of it. Every day is the same 'will he or won't he?' I personally think the Packers are in a no-win situation here. If they let him play again this year, then they are clutching on to the past, unwilling to move on. Vice-versa the organization looks like they are turning their back on a legend.

Personally I would find a strange joy in this story if Favre became a Viking. That is the storyline I am rooting for. I could see many a Packer fan go on suicide watch if Favre showed up in a purple #4. The collective laughing by all of the anti-Packer fandom in Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, San Fran, and points in between would be deafening. This would be hands the greatest, most hilarious turncoat story in the history of sport.

    Sunday Morning Round-Up

Last night I watched the UFC Live fights on Spike. Anderson Silva KO'd James Irvin in 61 seconds. The two fighters were feeling each other out and Irvin threw a body kick. Silva caught it with his arm and hit Irvin dead square in the jaw. Irvin's body crumpled to the mat and Silva finished him with the obligatory face pounding. Silva is just amazing. Many facets to his game. I said yesterday that if the fight got to the mat it would be over because of Irvin's knockout power. Wow, guess I was wrong. Silva's kickboxing is solid. He is well rounded and that is why he's a rockstar in the UFC right now. Silva was very gracious in victory. Class act.

Here is the fight (Thanks YouTube)

I'm watching the British Open this morning. I'll be rooting hard for Greg Norman to win. He is obviously the story of the tournament, but I've always liked the old, wiley veterans coming back to old form. It'll be interesting to watch.

    The First Entry

I'm a big fan of the blogosphere. This blog is a transfer of the myspace attempt. I'll talk about a lot of different things here. (Just read the description).

    What's the happening tonight???

Just a quiet night with the kiddos watching DVDs. Once they get tucked in I'll probably watch the UFC tilt tonight on Spike. I'm really excited to see if Silva can finish Irvin. Should be an interesting fight. I expect that if Silva gets Irvin to the ground it will be over pretty quickly.
