    My T-minus 12hrs Gopher Preview

    ESPN Preview

Here is what the ESPN Simulator has predicted

    Game Projection Pts

    Minnesota 57.9

    Texas 66.1

    Projected High-Scorer

    Damion James (TX) 14.3 pts

My co-workers can attest that most of the time I sport the Scarlet of the Huskers. There is one passion that I’ve had since I called Territorial Hall home and that is Gopher Hoops. Distance, Gangel-gate, and the Dan Monson era has done a lot to mute that passion. There were wounds left over from that era that led me to drift away from ‘the Barn.’ Since Tubby has came on board I have made more of an effort to follow blogs out of the twin cities so I can keep in touch with Gopher hoops. I have been brought back into a lather from this appearance in the tournament. Does it mean that I’m a poor fan – probably. I really don’t care at this point. I’m wearing my Gopher shirt with pride today. Coincidentally I am in the heart of Longhorn country (~150 miles from Austin, TX).

Now on to the preview. This has probably been mish-mashed a thousand different ways. I see it pretty simply.

    • Westbrook vs. Abrams – I see this as a head-to-head match up. I think Abrams holds an edge with tournament experience but how Tubby calls in help for a double team. I suspect he will use Abu-Shamala or someone from that 3 position to use there length for help. Tubby will have to keep Abrams guessing by moving the help around.
    • Pittman vs. Sampson/Iverson two-headed monster – Tubby has to counter Pittman’s inside game with Iverson and Sampson there to annoy and foul. The perimeter will have to challenge passing lanes. If this becomes an inside game I think Texas holds the edge. Tubby will have do something to harass those passes to the interior.

This game will be a defensive battle. Both coaches preach a physical defensive brand of basketball. This is where I think the preview is correct. However I think it will be an ugly, scrum sort of game with a final score of….

    MINNESOTA 63

    TEXAS 59

I guess we will see roughly in 12 hours.

The original “This Town” by O.A.R.

O.A.R. has released ‘This Town’ as a single.  Of course they have re-shot the video in NYC for MTV/VH1 purposes.  I don’t understand why but I decided to put out the original treatment of the song.  Coincidentally, this video above was shot in the Old Market area of Omaha at the Dubliner and exterior shots in and around Omaha.

    Couple of Jon Foreman videos

Jon is the lead singer of the band Switchfoot (one of my absolute favorite bands).  He did an acoustic show in Illinois.  I got a tip to check out the youtube videos.  Here are my favorites.  Enjoy

Dudes from Mississippi are bad mammajammas…

This dude reportedly fought off a 12 foot tiger shark to save his friend.  If you read the comments on the story, there is a discussion on whether or not this was really self defense.  Read and enjoy…

Musings from Spring Break in the frigid North

Well it’s Tuesday on the spring break extravaganza. It’s freezing rain and we are awaiting a blizzard to lay down a blanket of snow. I was going to take this opportunity to do something productive and post an entry.

We took the drive up I-35 and others to drive up to Estherville. One may wonder why make a drive North when most move southward for such trips. Well thanks to this recession the plant had to shutdown for the week. Well with Elijah off from school, Sara off from teaching, and me off from work why not head north.

The drive up was splendid DVD players were a godsend. I don’t know how parents got along without them. We put them in and the kids were content. We kept them fed with snacks and food. It made the drive easy.

We took the first leg (Brownwood to Wichita) on the first night. It took us roughly 8.5 hours. Minus the half hour stop to set up for dinner, we made great time. I was really worried about how tired I was going to be especially the later it got. So I popped a 5-hour energy.

Maybe it was the power of suggestion or the placebo effect, but those things really worked for me. I was really awake when we rolled into the Holiday Inn Express in Wichita. In fact I had to make myself sleep.

The second leg the next morning took us through Topeka, Auburn NE, Omaha, and finally Estherville. The drive was really easy.

I have forgotten what cold really feels like. Since we’ve been here we’ve been hit with snowfall, freezing rain, and sleet. I’ve had to scrape my windows. I forgot how much fun that really is. ;)

Well that’s it for now. I’ll check back in later
